Ever since I literally ran into a manatee while paddling along in Costa Rica’s Tortugero canals, I’ve had a special place in my heart for these lumbering aquatic mammals. And so it was great fun to write a children’s book about not only a manatee but the entire ecosystem of the Tortuguero canals. The book is biligual (English/Spanish) and has lovely illustrations by Maggie Olson. At the back of the book are detailed descriptions and illustrations of the animal life of Costa Rica, from jaguars to roseate spoonbills.
