I’m Erin Van Rheenen. I like to write about people and places – travel narratives, profiles of prisoners and philanthropists, articles on scientists and filmmakers, and fiction that’s preoccupied with place as much with plot and character.

I’ve won awards for my fiction and nonfiction, have worked as an editor and staff writer, and have taught writing in high schools, universities, and at the San Francisco Women’s Jail. I’ve been interviewed on CNN and local TV about moving abroad and Costa Rica, and on many radio shows, including Rick Steves’. I was hired as a move abroad consultant and have given talks, presentations and classes on traveling and moving abroad.

I also do copywriting and content strategy, mostly for nonprofits with an emphasis on science education. You can email for samples.
